The Cantaloupe likely originated from a region between India and Africa. After a world-wide search, a moldy cantaloupe in a Peoria, Illinois market in 1943 was found to contain the highest yielding strain of mold for penicillin production. Best eaten within three days of cutting open or you’ll have you’ll own penicillin supply.
